British-Ugandan spoken-word artist, George the Poet has been introduced to the family of his wife Sandra Diana Makumbi, in a rather unconventional stroke from the Ugandan culture playbook.
George and Sandra, both Ugandan, got married in London where the couple lives, in August this year.

Ordinarily, according to the Ugandan tradition, an introduction ceremony would be among the customary events that precede the wedding. The ceremony is when the bride-to-be formally introduces her suitor to her family.
However, this was not possible due to the Covid pandemic which couldn’t allow the two to fly back home.
The London based poet, rapper and podcaster of Ugandan heritage, has had a busy year with work as well as school – University of London where he was pursuing a Degree in Literature.

George and Sandra returned to Uganda a few weeks ago mainly to plan their Kwanjula.
In a post on Tuesday, the poet shared how special this was for them.
“2021 imma let you finish but me and Sandra finally got the introduction we wanted… Bringing our families together has been our dream for the year. The pandemic didn’t make it easy, but God smiled on our plans,” he wrote on his Instagram.
Sticking to the culture, George wore traditional outfit – a kanzu.
Musicians Sheebah, Rema, Fik Fameica and Winnie Nwagi were among entertainers who performed at the introduction ceremony. George gave them a shout for “doing it”.
In one of the clips he shared, he and Sandra are seen grooving to Fik’s Buligita.
George proposed to Sandra in December last year, in what he said turned out 10 times better considering the joy it brought people.
Sandra works as operations manager of George’s company – George the Poet Limited.
