Sometime in mid-2013, rumors emerged that continental socialite and Young, Famous and African star, Zari Hassan, and her then husband, Ivan Ssemwanga had separated.
The reasons cited for the alleged separation was infidelity. Zari accused now deceased Ssemwanga with who she had been married for two years, of dating other girls. In a 2021 interview, she also revealed that Ssemwanga was physically violent and verbally abusive.
What began as a rumored separation would later be confirmed when Zari and Tanzanian superstar, Diamond Platnumz, made their romantic affair public.
It even became more serious when in August 2015, she sired a daughter for the singer.
As if that wasn’t enough, December of the following year, the two had another child (son) together. By this time, Zari and Diamond were an inseparable item until the Jeje singer started cheating on madly-in-love Zari with a series of other women, younger ones at that.
These included Tanzanian actress and socialite, Hamisa Mobetto.
This could have been amongst the many reasons that informed Zari’s decision on Valentine’s Day of 2018 to dump Platnumz in an Instagram post.
“There have been multiple rumors some with evidence floating around in ALL SORTS of media in regards to Diamond’s constant cheating and sadly I have decided to end my relationship with Diamond, as my RESPECT, INTEGRITY, DIGNITY & WELL BEING cannot be compromised,” read Zari’s post in part.
Zari has repeatedly stated she can tolerate many things in a man but not infidelity. This is the highest sort of disrespect, she says, especially when on her part she is being faithful.
Since the breakup, what has seemed like efforts to rekindle their lost relationship have been unsuccessful that at some point the two resorted to just raise their children Latiffah,7 and Prince Nillan,6 as co-parents. This has also had its own dramatic side.
A few years ago, Zari accused the singer of child neglect.
Turns out, as this has been going on, their children aren’t in the know of the fact that their parents separated 6 years ago. This was revealed by Platnumz on his recent visit to Uganda where he was the headliner at the Comedy Store’s charity concert at Kololo Airstrip.
“We don’t want to entertain negativity when it comes to our kids, we tryna make it more professional, that’s why when you see our kids around us, they are more comfortable because you don’t want to make the kids stressed for no good reason. I don’t even show my kids if I am dating or something, they think I am still dating their mother,” the Yatapita singer told journalists in Kampala.
The 2014, 2015 and 2020 Africa Magazine Muzik Awards (AFRIMMA) winner also disclosed that growing up as a child seeing his mother not living with his father was a stressful thing he had to deal with.
“The love has to go on, everybody has to do his/her stuff but when it comes to our kids we always come together and make sure the kids are safe,” he said.
