Sadhguru School to stage play on how Abatembuzi of Kitara lost their empire

The story of the play is set 800-900 years ago in the land of Kitara in present-day Western Uganda. A new kingdom led by Nyamiyonga sets its sights on conquering the ancient Kingdom of Kitara, led by Isaza.

Sadhguru School Uganda is set to showcase a musical play based on the legend of how Abatembuzi – the original rulers of Kitara – lost their empire.

The play titled Isaza & the King of the Underworld will be staged on Sunday June 25 at the National Theatre starting 4pm in what promises to be a theatrical cultural extravaganza presented by Sadhguru School Uganda students.

Isaza & the King of the Underworld is a magnificently unique production. Not only was it created and prepared by the students and teachers of Sadhguru School from Reception to Year 7, this will also be the first time ever that the saga of King Isaza’s battle with Nyamiyonga is presented on a national stage.

The story of the play is set 800-900 years ago in the land of Kitara in present-day Western Uganda. A new kingdom led by Nyamiyonga sets its sights on conquering the ancient Kingdom of Kitara, led by Isaza.

This leads to an epic battle of egos and wits that is still playing out today every time we hear an earthquake if the legend is to be believed. This epic tale is brought to life through rap, song, dance, traditional drums, and colorful costumes inspired by the cultures of Tooro and Bunyoro, with hints and traces of the modern culture in which our children are growing up.

The play is presented in Rutooro, so it’s an ideal date for Rutooro and Runyoro-speaking adults and families with children between 7-16, and anyone who loves witnessing and celebrating African culture.

In addition to presenting the play, Sadhguru School will also be raising awareness about the #SaveSoil campaign, a global movement to reverse the ongoing death of arable soil across the planet.

According to scientists, 52 percent of agricultural soils are already degraded. We are likely to lose all fertile soils in 50 years if we don’t change our farming methods today. As a learning center dedicated to providing quality education to rural children in Kasenda and Ruteete (Kabarole District) (SDG 4), Sadhguru School prides itself in finding interesting ways to inspire children to fall in love with knowledge, life, nature, and culture.

To help prepare our students for life in a digital world, Sadhguru School is raising funds to set up smart classrooms and a modern computer lab at the school. Every ticket you buy will go to this cause so members of the public are encouraged to turn up in large numbers to support this project.

Tickets are selling at 50,000 at Kampala National Theatre.
