Netizens react to Chameleone’s apology after his controversial kiss with brother, Weasel

Chameleone has since bowed to public pressure. The singer issued a public apology on his social pages. The Forever singer blames it on too much energy and excitement that gripped him and Weasel at the concert which was successful.

Veteran singer, Jose Chameleone, and his younger singing brother, Weasel, have on three separate occasions kissed in public igniting mixed reactions among the public.

Some people say that there is a hidden agenda behind this pattern of behavior while others say the Mayanja brothers do it for attention. But according to the two, kissing is about nothing but expressing their brotherly love.

Except, the latest incident which occurred during their performance at Chameleone’s Gwanga Mujje concert came at a time when the country is having a debate about homosexuality. The trend has been condemned by the President, the Anglican church, the Muslim fraternity and some lawmakers.

Chameleone and Weasel were first seen kissing publicly in 2016 at a concert in Kampala. Another such incident occurred while the two performed at a concert in Bujumbura, Burundi in May 2022.

But none of these moments was as prominent as last week’s. A photo of the two kissing has gone viral sparking comments from the public, some of whom were left disgusted. Among people who have castigated the singers is renowned vlogger Isma Olaxes as well as controversial pastor, Martin Ssempa who filed a Police case, arguing the Bomboclat singers are promoting homosexuality.

Chameleone has since bowed to public pressure. The singer issued a public apology on his social pages. The Forever singer blames it on too much energy and excitement that gripped him and Weasel at the concert which was successful.

“My sincere apologies to the general public. Weasel and I are brothers and family men. We were caught up in the heat of the moment. As African men we respect African values and morals. The act is regrettable and should not have happened and will never happen again. On behalf of the Mayanja family I kindly apologize. Thank you,” read Chamelone’s apology.

There has been mixed reactions to his apology. Former Minister Mike Mukula hailed Chameleone for being apologetic and clearing the air.
