Nince Henry apologizes after stunt gone wrong

In 2021, Henry posted on social media that he was going to end his life. Days later, he revealed in an interview that the post was a stunt to attract attention to a new song ‘Killer Portion’ he was set to release.

Putting his seemingly never-ending bickering with singer A Pass aside, singer and songwriter, Nince Henry, recently made a post that set tongues wagging.

The singer revealed that he had run so broke to the extent of starvation and failure to raise money to pay for the release of his latest music video as well as its airplay.

He also ranted about his failed attempt to get help from his fellow artistes. He alleged that no one reached out to him and that subsequently, he was forced to put his car on sale so he could raise some money and bail himself out of this state.

“These artistes are not friendly! The last two weeks have been so tough for me. I have struggled to make things work from all angles but life eganye! I have been calling my fellow artistes for help but No one wants to pick up my calls since I am looking for help! To the extent of starving nga silina nakyakulya! I know you think it’s like a joke right? Failed to raise the balance for the director to give me my video! The director Elly Mugisha just had to forgive me and send me the video with the promise that I will pay him in future because I badly wanted to release the song,” read Nince’s post in part.

The Kaberebere singer’s post ignited mixed reactions. A section of the public perceived his lamentations as yet another one of his publicity stunts, and called him out. One of those who criticized Nince Henry was Dj Crim. The deejay told Henry to stop playing on people’s emotions as a means to stay relevant.

He also warned the singer to be careful what he wishes for.

Following the social pressure, Henry finally yielded and cleared the air about the matter. He apologized to his fans, the public and local artistes whom he had accused of not helping him.

He says he hasn’t actually run broke but simply wanted to sell his car. He had hoped the post would attract attention to the car, he said, though the messaging was inappropriate.

“I realized later that what I did isn’t good but It’s true I had a car I wanted to resell so I had to make a public post thinking I was going to attract attention for potential buyers but I think the way I structured the post came off a different way so I really apologize,” said Nince Henry in an interview with a local television station.

Music and stunts have always been inseparable. Many Ugandan musicians have always turned to stunts to promote their music. From Chameleone’s dramatic conversion to Islam, to MC Kats’ claim that he was beaten by Fille, to Gravity Omutujju being ‘shot’ by a security guard.

It is also believed that the rivalry that existed between Chameleone, Bobi Wine and Bebe Cool was deliberately engineered to promote their music.

In Nince Henry’s case, the latest stung gone wrong isn’t the first. In 2021, he posted on social media that he was going to end his life. Days later, he revealed in an interview that the post was a stunt to attract attention to a new song Killer Portion he was set to release.

Little wonder that after the latest controversial post about being broke, Henry released a new music video. The same music video he claimed he had failed to complete payment for.
