American entertainer, Steve Harvey has offered to adopt budding Kenyan comedian, Elsa Majimbo, as his niece.
The television host, actor and author who hosts The Steve Harvey Show, said he is ready to be Majimbo’s uncle as a way to bridge the gap between Africa and African Americans.
She was appearing on Steve’s popular Facebook show Steve on Watch. The at-home shows which he began during the Covid pandemic is filmed in Atlanta, Georgia.
Majimbo became an internet sensation in 2020 after her satirical monologues which usually feature her crunching potato crisps, leaning back to a pillow and using a pair of tiny 1990’s sunglasses as a prop.
“This is what i’m gonna do. I’m gonna adopt you as my niece. Imma give you my phone number, I don’t care what you need. If you need a place to go, if you need some help, some advice or you wanna talk to somebody, you call. And i’m serious. I won’t let nothing happen to you,” Steve told Majimbo during the show.
“So, Elsa, you got an uncle in the United States. Anytime you need something, Uncle Steve got you,” added the entertainer whose net worth is valued at $200m.
He says Africa is special because in his 65 years, Africa is the only place he has woken up in and he’s not a minority.
“If you’ve never been there, you have to go…. It’s an incredible place”.
Majimbo, 20, who is based in South Africa, has grown an Instagram audience north of 2.2 million followers. She has captured the attention of celebrities like Beyonce, Rihanna and has been interviewed by Anderson Cooper on CNN.
She recently collaborated with glbal couture brand Valentino and featured in campaigns for Fenty, Mac and Bumble. In 2020, she won the E! People’s Choice Award for African Social Star and GQ’s Entertainer of the Year (South Africa).
During 2020’s YouTube Streamy Awards, Majimbo was presented with a Creator Honoree award.
