Zari

TV

It seems Zari is the centre of all drama in Netflix’s upcoming reality TV show ‘Young, Famous and African’

Going by Netflix’s teaser, viewers are to expect a lot of drama and it seems alot of it rotates around Zari, the self styled ‘Boss Lady’.

In June, South Africa-based Ugandan socialite, Zari Hassan broke the news that she will be featuring in a Netflix show, but nobody really knew exactly what role she would be taking.

She said she was excited to be part of Netflix’s first ever African reality show. At the same time, her ex-lover Diamond Platnumz too teased his fans about how he would be on the same Netflix show – ‘Young, Famous and African’.

Now the official teaser is out.

It was released Saturday during Netflix’s first ever global fans event – TUDUM – where the subscription video on demand service announced what titles are coming.

The ‘Young Famous and African’ trailer shows African celebrities popping champagne, toasting and having a good time on boat cruises, choppers and private jets.

It will feature names like Kanyi Mbau (South African actress, TV host), Diamond Platnumz (Tanzanian singer and dancer), 2 Baba (Nigerian singer), Zari Hassan (Ugandan socialite) and Quinton Masina ‘Naked DJ’ (South African radio presenter and TV producer).

Others are Swanky Jerry (Nigerian fashion designer), Andile Ncube (South African TV host), Nadia Nakai (South African rapper, songwriter and TV presenter), and Annie Macaulay Idibia (Nigerian model and actress).

It’s a group of friends ‘living the African dream’ and living the lavish lifestyle.

“Here’s to really set the record straight. Yeah? Me and your man have never banged,” Zari tries to assure Annie (wife to 2Baba) in one of the scenes.

“There’s just this energy about me, that when it’s there, the confidence is way too high and it causes intimidation,” the socialite and mother of five says of herself in the trailer.

Going by Netflix’s teaser, viewers are to expect a lot of drama and it seems alot of it rotates around Zari, the self styled ‘Boss Lady’.

In one of the scenes, Nadia asks Zari, “Is this just your natural personality, to just piss people off?”

“I have zero time for drama. I’m quick to slap a bitch. If you’re gonna come at me, come with facts or just be ready for something to go down.” That’s how Nadia describes her personality.

In another scene, Zari is confronted by Annie who’s pissed that Zari told her husband she’s insecure. She attacks her for “trespassing”, but Zari claims she knew 2Baba before Annie did. The kind of juice that makes for great television.

The trailer has some real moments like when Quinton’s girlfriend tells him during a therapy session, that he’s one of the most unromantic people she’s ever seen and that she’s done.

Diamond Platnumz is comfortable with the notion that he is a player.

“My aka is Lion, Simba, so I want to hunt,” he says.

The Tanzanian award winning singer who’s working on his fourth album talks about love, and how he loves beautiful ladies.

With Diamond Platnumz, Zari has two kids. The two parents are likely to spill some beans on their previous relationship and how they now feel about each other.

The show whose release date was not disclosed, promises tension, candidness, partying, living the high life, and emotions. There’s a lot of bragging too.

This is the second time Zari will be doing reality TV after her first show ‘Zari the Boss Lady’ on UBC TV in 2012.
