Apple launched iPhone 13 series but upgrades fell short of some expectations

Earlier, there were rumors the company would make a leap into satellite communications technology as well as introduce augmented-reality capabilities to their latest devices.

Apple on Tuesday announced the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, Apple Watch Series 7, a new regular iPad and an all-new iPad mini.

Apple CEO, Tim Cook, launched the new products in an empty auditorium event in California. The event was however streamed by over 2 million people on YouTube.

The new iPhone 13 series phones have a faster processor, longer-lasting battery life, additional storage, new colors and camera upgrades. All these improvements have been introduced for years now.

Earlier, there were rumors the company would make a leap into satellite communications technology as well as introduce augmented-reality capabilities to their latest devices.

However, these did not come, to the disappointment of many Apple fans.

The biggest improvements seemed to be in the larger storage capacity with the device make now offering storage upgrade of up to a terabyte of data in the iPhone Pro Max.

There has also been an upgrade in the in-built cameras although the average person will likely not see much of a difference from last year’s model.

The tech giant also maintained the same opening prices as last year with the iPhone 13 pro going for $999 (Ushs 3.52m) while its bigger sibling, the Pro Max costs $1,099 (Ushs 3.87m).

Sales are expected to rebound following the new announcements.

The company has reported iPhone sales of more than $153 billion through three quarters of its fiscal year topping the annual total from each of the past two years.

All the new products announced on Tuesday are available for pre-order and will be available by Sept 24. Apple is forecast to see $194.5 billion in iPhone revenue for the fiscal year 2022.

Regarding the iPhone 13 model, the new device has a smaller cut-out at the top of the screen and battery life is expected to be between 1 and a half to 2 and a half hours longer than previous models depending on the device.

The phone has maintained the same body design as last year’s version with new camera modules arranged diagonally. One of the major camera improvements is the “cinematic mode” which can hold focus on a moving object. The iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 have two cameras while the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max have three cameras.

The base storage has also been increased from 64GB to 128GB, an upgrade from last year. The devices are powered by a new Apple-designed chip called A15 Bionic which has a specialized portion for running artificial intelligence algorithms.

Apple did not announce new AirPods.
